How to shave your head properly?

modèle masculin

Shaving the head is an act that men do as soon as they start losing hair. Here are my tips for shaving your head properly.

As soon as men start to lose their hair, in a very visible way, some tend to want to shave their heads. It is true that baldness is a real source of embarrassment in men, even if, today, hair transplantation is more and more practiced. And then shaving your head can also be a way of asserting yourself.

Here are my tips for shaving your head properly.

Why shave your head?

Men may choose to shave their heads for several reasons:

Shave your head against baldness

Shaving your head to deal with baldness. This is the main reason why men decide to shave their heads. And all the more so since men lose their hair on the top of the head, and not on the sides. The monk cut is indeed not very sought after at the moment.

Shave your head for aesthetics

Shaving the head for aesthetic reasons. It is true that a perfectly shaven head can be very pretty depending on the type of man, his head shape and his general appearance. It is not for nothing that very muscular and tall men, for example, decide to shave their heads.

Shave your head for fashion

Shave your head to be fashionable. Well, it's not really the case at the moment, but shaving your head was trendy a few years ago. Are we talking about after the World Cup in 1998?

Shave the head against the hair

Shave your head to remove hair. There are men who don't like body hair at all, no matter what part of the body. Also, as they are going to do full hair removal, they will also decide to  shave their heads.

How to shave your head?

You have decided to shave your head, here are my tips.

Before you shave your head, trim your hair!

Clipping your hair will make it much easier to shave your head. And this will be all the more true if you have long hair. Indeed, the razor with long hair, even on short hair, will not be very effective and you will waste a lot of time shaving your head. And you're not only going to use a lot of shaving product, which won't be very economical. But in addition, you will pass the razor blade several times over the skin of the skull, and in the end you risk attacking it.

Also, I advise you to use a hair clipper to do it:

  • starting with an intermediate hoof to cut length

  • then taking the smallest comb to cut your hair as short as possible.

  • if you have a hair clipper with a setting of 0 mm, you can use it to finalize the clipping.

If you don't have a hair clipper, you can use your beard trimmer

Before shaving your head, hot water!

Now that you have perfectly shaved your hair, I advise you to pass your head in hot water, for example by taking a shower. This will also remove any hair that may still be on your scalp after mowing.

Hot water will have the following effect:

  • to soften your hair, which will make the passage of the razor blade easier. You will take less time to shave your head.

  • to make your skull more relaxed, so you will take less risk of getting cuts from the passage of the razor blade, and therefore of bleeding. Because shaving your head is good, but if it's so that in the end it's full of cuts, it won't be very aesthetic.

Apply a shaving product to shave the head

Since the skull is a less fragile area than other parts of the body, you can use any shaving product:

  • a shaving foam, even if it will completely cover your head. You won't see what you're precisely shaving, as long as the lather is visible.

  • a shaving gel, which is my favorite for shaving your head. The product is transparent, which gives you perfect visibility of what you are doing with the razor blade.

I advise you to shave your head with a towel over your shoulders. To avoid having the shaving product fall on your clothes. Unless you do it in the shower.

The steps to shaving your head

When you're going to start shaving your head, I recommend starting with the sides, which are the easiest areas to shave. In all cases, whatever the part of the skull:

  • always shave in the direction of the hair, always going towards the back of your head and going down.

  • always have shaving product on your head before passing the razor blade. Never shave dry to avoid cuts.

When you have finished the sides and the back, shave the top of the head, always going in the direction of the hair, from the back to the front.

When you are done, I advise you to:

  • reapply shaving product to your entire head.

  • pass the razor in the opposite direction of the hair in order to have a perfectly smooth and soft skull.

Run your hand over your scalp to make sure you haven't missed any hairs.

Be careful, however, if you have pimples on the skull or moles. Remember to work around them well so as not to damage them and cause bleeding.

Shaving your head: what to do after shaving

Now that you have a completely shaved head, it is necessary to apply some care.

Apply moisturizer to the scalp

Your scalp has been damaged with the razor blade, there are indeed many micro-cuts, invisible to the eye. You're going to have to soothe your skull. To do this :

  • apply an aftershave

  • or apply a moisturizing body lotion.

Do a head scrub

You will have to avoid the appearance of ingrown hairs on your skull. There would indeed be nothing more unsightly than having many ingrown hairs, with their pimples, on the skull. Also, 3 to 4 days after having shaved your hair, I advise you to exfoliate your skull.
