lèvres gercées

How to cure chapped lips? Having chapped lips is not necessarily pretty and pleasant. Here are my tips for curing chapped lips.

As soon as the cold arrives, the lips begin to become very dry, until seeing the appearance of cracks which can be painful. Especially when we start smiling. And yet, having beautiful lips is a very important element.

Below are my tips for curing chapped lips.

Why do we have chapped lips ?

It's true that this is a question we can ask ourselves : why do we have chapped lips when we don't have peeling facial skin_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b -136bad5cf58d_?

Chapped lips because the skin is thin

First of all, you should know that the skin of the lips is 5 times thinner than that of the face ? And yes, it's a bit like the skin around the eyes which is much thinner. A finer skin while the lips are luscious ? Yes, but the lips contain more collagen and elastin than the rest of the face. Fortunately, otherwise we would have a completely swollen face !

Chapped lips due to lack of sebaceous glands

Then the skin of the lips does not contain sebaceous glands responsible for the production of sebum. Sebum which acts as a protective element of the skin. Thus, without sebum, the hydrolipidic film, which protects the skin from external aggressions, such as the cold, is much weaker.

These are the reasons why the skin of the lips becomes dry much faster than that of the face and it is important to take care of it. Besides, having dry lips is also a warning sign to tell you that the rest of the skin on your face is also drying out !

Lips chapped because of their shape

In addition, the lips being bulging, just like the nose, these are the first parts of the face to be exposed to the UV rays of the sun or the cold, and therefore to suffer their negative drying effects.

How to avoid having chapped lips ?

Of course, before treating chapped lips, and therefore dry lips, you must avoid having chapped lips in the best of cases.  And to do this, it is necessary to bring some daily attention :

Water for chapped lips

Drink water : we can never repeat it enough, but drinking water every day is very important to have beautiful skin and therefore beautiful, perfectly hydrated lips. Don't hesitate to drink 2 liters of water on average per day, or even 3 liras of water if you exercise.

Avoid Tongue on Chapped Lips

Avoid running your tongue over your lips. It's a mechanical gesture that many of us do, and yet it risks dehydrating them even more. Indeed, even if the saliva seems to do good after putting it on the lips, you should know that it evaporates very quickly. This accentuates the dryness of the lips.

Cold cream against chapped lips

Limit exposure to the sun and its UV rays which will also dry out your lips. If you're skiing, do not hesitate to put a cold cream on your lips.

The balm on chapped lips

Provide special daily care by applying a lip balm, even lightly. For example, you could put it on in the evening before going to bed.

A scrub against chapped lips

Exfoliate the face by passing it over the lips. And yes, the skin of the lips is also renewed, so it is important to remove all the dead cells from the lips, especially so that the application of the lip balm is perfectly homogeneous over the entire surface.
