What to do against holes in the beard?

trous dans la barbe

You have holes in your beard and you don't know what to do to fix it. You are one of those men who dream of having a full beard that lasts several weeks or even months. But unfortunately the holes in the beard prevent you from having it and it's a real heartbreaker. And you have a sparse or incomplete beard instead. Did you know that the average man has 50 hairs per square centimeter on his face ?

You apply beard oil with castor oil every day, thinking that the benefits of castor oil will help you grow your beard through the holes. Or you continually shave thinking it will eventually grow hair. Besides, you don't even dare to leave your 3-day beard anymore because you have from time to time some thoughts from those around you on these famous holes in your beard. Reflections that are said in a tone of fun, but which further raise your anxiety about not having a full beard.

So do not worry, having holes in the beard is the case with many men and does not constitute a lack of virility, masculinity.

Why do you have holes in your beard?

The question that many men ask is why they have gaps in their beards. Having the answer would allow them to find the solution and therefore to have, in the long term, a full beard, a thick beard . Unfortunately, I'm going to dampen some people's hopes here, if you have gaps in your beard, it's largely down to genetics or hormones. The reasons for having holes in the beard are many :

Holes in the beard due to the absence of hair follicles.

The hair follicle is the cavity in which the hair originates. It is located about 4 mm under the skin. Each hair follicle contains a sebaceous gland, which will produce sebum. The hair follicles are present on almost all parts of the body, except, in men, at the level of the palms of the hands, the soles of the feet, the navel, the nipples, the penis glans, the internal face of the foreskin. This is the reason why we have hair all over the body.

But there may be parts of the body that don't have hair follicles. You can't help it, that's how it is. Also, since there are no hair follicles, so there are no hairs. It's logic. This can explain holes in the beard (but also holes in leg hair, arm hair, etc.). Some men don't have hair on their calves or knees, for the same reason. Except for you, it falls in the beard and therefore generates holes in the beard.

So, no matter how much you apply beard oil or beard growth accelerators, it won't change anything.

The absence of a hair follicle can also be due to accidents, such as burns, for example. But that's another point.

You need to make an appointment with a dermatologist to find out if you have missing hair follicles in certain areas of your beard.

Holes in the beard due to lack of hair.

You can have an absence of hair follicle, but you can also have an absence of hair in your hair follicle. Quite simply. Again, you might get more advice by going to see a dermatologist. So, no matter how much you do to grow your hair, it will be useless, simply because you don't have a root.

The only possibility for you to have hair will be to do a beard transplant, I talk about it at the end of this article.

Holes in the beard from alopecia areata.

Alopecia areata is a condition where the hair does not stay in the hair follicle. The hair is there, but it falls. It falls but behind does not grow back as it should.

Indeed, hairs have a life cycle that combines birth (anagen phase), growth (catagen phase) and fall (telogen phase). Alopecia areata is the phenomenon that after the telogen phase, the anagen phase does not occur. Alopecia areata is usually a temporary phenomenon. It is often due to stress.

To deal with this, it is of course advisable to make an appointment with a dermatologist, who can give you treatment. On the other hand, if you are aware that alopecia areata is due to stress, in this case the only solution for you will be to relax. But it's not that simple.

What to do if you have holes in your beard?

You will have understood it well, if you have all in the beard, you cannot do much to grow the hair if it comes from genetics. We will have to find tricks to hide the holes in the beard. Here are four:

Hide the holes in the beard by growing it out

Let your beard grow! Yes, it's paradoxical, but depending on how your beard holes are, you can let your beard grow out and hide the holes by brushing the beard a certain way. Take your beard brush and a beard balm and make sure to fill the holes in the beard with your long hairs.

Hide holes in the beard with beard oil

If you have holes in your beard, apply a beard oil daily, morning and evening. Beard oil will have the effect of nourishing the skin in depth and therefore taking care of the hair follicle. A healthy hair follicle will inevitably have an impact on the growth of your hair and the quality of the hair. He will be stronger, and will therefore have less risk of falling while pushing.

You can also apply regular vegetable oil for this, instead of buying beard oil. Castor oil is the best known and the most sought after by bearded men. The interest of beard oils is that they are generally composed of a mixture of several vegetable oils, which reinforces its interest.

Hide the holes in the beard by making it up

Make up your beard : this is especially effective if you have a short beard, whose hair length is shorter than a 3-day beard. How to make up your beard, you have two possibilities:

  • either you can use an eyebrow pencil, which you will pass over your beard. Take an eyeliner that is the same color as your beard hair and dot it where you have gaps in your beard. Then blend with a fine brush.

  • either you can color your beard, with a specific dye.

Hide the holes in the beard by adopting a style

Adapt your beard style. Do not hesitate to choose a style of beard that suits the shape of your face and that in addition will ensure that it is not present in the places where you have holes in the beard.

Hide holes in the beard with a beard accelerator

So before detailing this part, I advise you to go to your dermatologist to see if you are not suffering from an absence of hair follicles, before spending your money on a beard accelerator. Because, you will understand, if you do not have a hair follicle, you may apply a beard accelerator daily, it will have no effect!

On the other hand, if you do have a hair follicle, but your hair is a little sleepy, then the beard accelerator can be effective. They generally consist of wheat protein or brewer's yeast which have a positive effect on hair growth.

Beard transplant against holes in the beard

The last resort you might have to deal with your beard holes is beard transplant. Yes, it is done, as we practice hair transplantation. So of course, the beard transplant will have to be done if you really have complexes with your holes in the beard, because it implies having a certain budget. At the same time, if you stack up your spending on beard accelerators or beard oils, you could get to that amount pretty quickly.

Of course, beard transplantation is practiced in aesthetic medicine clinics. I therefore advise you to make an appointment with a specialist, who will not only analyze your skin but will also give you advice for beard transplantation.
