Visiting the surroundings of Nice: the best places

Coming to visit the city of Nice is of course something you absolutely must do! That's why I created this Nice blog , to make you want to discover this magnificent city, which for me is too little known and with a certain image that is not reality. But what you may know even less is that the surroundings of Nice are just as magnificent! It's an area that I didn't know at all before coming to live in Nice, and I must say that as soon as I have family coming down to Nice, I systematically send them to visit the surroundings of Nice.

You will find below my selection of the most beautiful villages and towns to do around Nice. Below is my selection.

Summary :

1. Villefranche-sur-Mer

2. Eze

3. Chin

4. La Turbie

5. St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat

6. Saint-Paul-de-Vence

Visit Villefranche-sur-Mer

Villefranche-sur-Mer is located east of Nice, it is also the first city to the east in terms of the coast. To be completely transparent, Villefranche-sur-Mer is a city that I discovered only recently, and it has become a city that I love! Here are the reasons:

  • I recommend going to Villefranche-sur-Mer to visit its old town. It is full of small alleys and very nice little shops.

  • to visit absolutely, the rue Obscure, a completely covered street of 130 m and which dates from 1260. A mysterious and above all unique street in the region.

  • go to the Saint Elme citadel, which dates from the 16th century, and have a magnificent view of the sea.

  • having a drink in the evening or having lunch on the terrace on the port of Villefranche-sur-Mer is really very pleasant.

Visit the village of Eze

Eze is the smallest in my opinion of the Côte d'Azur. It's very simple, when I show this village to family members or friends, they remain speechless in front of the panorama offered by this village.

The village of Eze is two parts, you have Eze the village as such, which is on the heights, and Eze beach by the sea. The seaside is quite nice, less crowded than the beaches of Nice. But I will mainly talk about the village of Eze which is in the heights.

  • the village of Eze is built on a rock which offers incredible side views. If you are looking for the most beautiful view of the Côte d'Azur, you should go to Eze.

  • it is also a charming village to visit, with many nice shops and restaurants.

.

Visit Menton

Menton is the easternmost city of the Alpes-Maritimes department, and therefore of France. Last city before entering Italy. This city has a very bad image in my opinion, considered to be a city of old people. It is also said that it is the favorite city of retirees in France. But this city is above all a very beautiful city, in which I regularly go for a walk.

  • the old town of Menton is very pleasant, much quieter than Old Nice for example. There are thus far fewer shops, restaurants and bars. It is still an old town in which many people from Menton live, and that is what gives it its charm.

  • the old town of Menton also reminds me a lot of Italian villages near the border, with its colorful houses, the laundry hanging in windows, its smells...

  • the seaside of Menton, for once much livelier, is very pleasant for a walk..

Visit La Turbie

I'm sure you've never heard of La Turbie. To tell the truth, month either, I just saw the name of this city on the road signs, but I had not yet stopped there, until recently.

And yet, this city conceals one of the most beautiful ancient monuments in France, erected in the year 6 BC in honor of Octave, nephew of Caesar and future emperor Augustus, intended to symbolize the power of Rome: the Trophy of Augustus. We do not expect to see such a monument in the region, and yet.

Visit Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat

Another place to visit in the vicinity of Nice is the peninsula of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat. Besides, I advise you to plan a day there because the walk along the peninsula is really very beautiful to do. It's relaxing, it's beautiful, you can stop regularly to swim in the sea, enough to spend a very nice day.

Of course, I advise you to have lunch, dinner or simply have a drink in one of the many bars and restaurants in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.

Visit Saint-Paul-de-Vence

I deviate a little from the coast to take you inland, and a little further from Nice. It takes about 30 minutes by taking the highway. Direction Saint-Paul-de-Vence, one of the most beautiful villages in the region. A little perched, from the ramparts of the city, on which you can walk, you can have a view in the distance of the coast which is really very beautiful. But what really makes the charm of Saint-Paul-de-Vence are its narrow streets. In its own juice, the village is magnificent all in stone. Be careful, it climbs, but it's worth it. I also advise you to have lunch or dinner in one of its restaurants.

Saint-Paul-de-Vence is also known for all its art gallery shops, which gives it a very special, very arty atmosphere.
