Why use a beard shampoo?

Beard shampoo has become a necessary care for the beard. Find my tips for choosing the right beard shampoo and using it well.

Is it really necessary to use beard shampoo? It is true that this is a question that many bearded men ask themselves ! In the end, why buy beard shampoo when we already have hair shampoo in our bathroom !

It is advisable to use a beard shampoo rather than a hair shampoo because the skin under the beard is not the same as the scalp. Thus, beard shampoo is milder than hair shampoo.

Why use beard shampoo ?

There are different reasons that bearded men may use beard shampoo.

A beard shampoo to wash thoroughly

Did you know that the beard is one of the dirtiest places in the human body ? It doesn't look like this ! But between pollution (especially if you live in a big city), food stains including grease, cigarette smoke, sweat, etc., the beard is not very clean. Even it is a real nest of bacteria. The dirty beard is thus very common in all bearded men, without us realizing it! It is even said that the beard is dirtier than a urinal...well, it all depends on where the urinal is!

A beard shampoo to hydrate

The beard shampoo will indeed be effective in moisturizing the beard and more precisely the beard hair. And it is essential to have a beautiful, shiny, supple and soft coat. Moreover, most beard shampoos are composed of a vegetable oil, such as aloe vera oil for example.

A beard shampoo to treat yourself

The pogonophile will understand me ! When you have a long beard, you like to take care of it. It is our jewel, it is what makes our personality. So we like to pamper her ! We take time in the bathroom to wash it, moisturize it, apply care, style it, discipline it, trim it… And to do this, we want to use suitable products that will do it good. Beard shampoo is a perfect product for this. As we use a beard oil or a beard balm . And what's more, it allows us to relax, to think about something other than the worries of our daily lives.

How to clean your beard with beard shampoo

Washing your beard well with a beard shampoo is therefore essential, in particular to remove all the bacteria that have taken place there.

How often to use beard shampoo

The frequency of use of a beard shampoo will necessarily depend on the size of your beard :

  • if you have a short beard, it is advisable to wash your beard with a beard shampoo once a week.

  • if your beard is a few months long, it is necessary to wash your beard at least three times a week.

In any case, as with the hair, you should not wash your beard with a beard shampoo every day, at the risk of damaging it and especially drying it out. Indeed, by washing your beard too frequently, you will remove the sebum that is supposed to protect it. Also, if you have a dry beard, it is not advisable to wash your beard regularly.

But it will also depend on your daily activity ! So, after a good day at the beach or a day at the pool, do not hesitate to shampoo your beard to remove grains of sand, for example. If you have just done an intensive sports session, as you are going to wash your hair, do not hesitate to wash your beard.

When to apply beard shampoo ?

I advise you to use your beard shampoo while you are in the shower ! It will be more convenient and you will waste less time ! So as soon as you shampoo your hair, you can shampoo your beard.

But you can also do it at the sink, when you feel that your beard is dirty or because you have eaten your dish with sauce badly and you got it all over the place!

Which beard shampoo to choose ?

So the choice of beard shampoo is really variable depending on the person. Here are my tips :

Natural beard shampoo

Preferably choose a natural beard shampoo : it will be healthier for your skin, for your beard hair, and for our environment ! If the products are also from organic farming, you will have won everything  !

Scented beard shampoo

Choose a beard shampoo that has a scent that you find pleasing. It's still nicer to use a shampoo whose smell you like. If you prefer neutral products, do not use beard shampoos that contain essential oils.

Moisturizing beard shampoo

I advise you to choose a beard shampoo that contains vegetable oils, in addition to cleansing active ingredients. This will not only deeply cleanse your beard hair, but also moisturize it. And you know that a perfectly hydrated hair is a stronger, shinier and more robust hair. In the end, your ball will look better.

How to use a beard shampoo?

Here are the different steps to properly use a beard shampoo:

  • First, you must comb your beard or brush your beard in order to undo any beard knots that may be present. This will allow you to have a smooth beard where each hair will be perfectly washed.

  • then moisten your beard with water that is not hot. The heat from the water will simply open the cuticles of your beard hair. The beard shampoo will penetrate better in depth.

  • take a dab of beard shampoo in your hand. Of course, the longer your beard, the bigger the nut should be.

  • rub the beard shampoo into your hands and apply it all over your beard, touching your skin.

  • knead your beard well

  • rinse with lukewarm water

  • you can then apply a beard oil.

The alternative to beard shampoo?

An alternative to beard shampoo is beard scrub . Just like the facial scrub, the beard scrub will not only cleanse the beard, but it will also be particularly effective in removing excess sebum present at the roots of your beard hair, or even on your beard directly. .

There are beard scrub products that you can find for sale, but you can make your own scrub at home, using vegetable oils and powdered sugar.
