The mustache is back in fashion among men. Here are all my tips for properly maintaining your mustache.

While a few months ago the mustache had become a bit old-fashioned, it is clear that it is making a strong comeback on men's faces! I sincerely believe that the Movember movement has something to do with it. But it is true that a beautiful mustache, well trimmed, well maintained to look very pretty on a man's face. Having a mustache is good, but maintaining it is even better.

Here are all my tips for maintaining your mustache.

Why have a mustache?

Before telling you about how to maintain your mustache, some people may still wonder why have a mustache today. Here are the reasons that can lead men to have a mustache:

  • a mustache because it is easier to maintain than a beard: it must be said that the mustache takes less time to come than a beard, so impatient people will prefer the mustache to the beard. What's more, you're less likely to have gaps in your mustache than gaps in your beard . So in the end, men who have a sparse or incomplete beard will prefer to have a mustache.

  • a mustache because it gives personality: depending on the shape of the mustache, it can indeed give you a certain personality. Either a very classy, very chic image, or on the contrary a very original image.

How to grow your moustache?

If you want to grow your mustache, here are my tips

Let your beard grow

If you want to grow your mustache, you have to grow your beard at the same time. Indeed, to keep a certain homogeneity on your face, and before drawing your mustache perfectly, it will be good to let all the hair on your face grow. For this, you will have to be patient and wait a few days, or even a few weeks depending on how long your hair takes to grow.

However, to keep a certain sharpness, I advise you to shave the contours of your mustache, and in particular the hairs which would fall on your upper lip. Having mustache hair falling on the lips is not very pretty.

Start trimming to maintain the mustache

When your beard is long enough, and therefore your mustache too, you can start trimming it according to the shape you want to have.

To do this, you can use different means:

  • a beard trimmer to trim the mustache to the desired length of hair. You can also use the beard trimmer to thin out your mustache. Do not hesitate to help you with a beard comb to have a good length.

  • or a mustache scissor, if you're afraid to use clippers. The advantage of using a mustache scissor to maintain your mustache is that you can cut your mustache down to the hair. It will be very precise.

In any case, to trim a mustache, you will have to:

  • draw the outline of your mustache, especially on the upper lip.

  • thin the hairs.

  • regularly cut the length.

My advice for maintaining a mustache?

Now that you have a beautiful mustache, with the length of hair you want and especially with the shape you want, here are all my tips for maintaining a mustache.

Wash to maintain the mustache

Yes, you will have to wash your mustache! Especially if you have a mustache with a long hair! Because the mustache is a nest of bacteria, dirt, impurities, like a beard. To do this, you have different options:

  • you can use a beard shampoo : this type of product has the advantage of taking good care of the hair of your mustache, of treating it well. It will also moisturize the skin under your mustache.

  • you can also use a shaving soap if you want the most ecological maintenance of your mustache possible.

In any case, do not use a classic soap, your shower gel or a hair shampoo that could dry out your mustache hair.

Moisturize to maintain the mustache

Having a beautiful mustache is good, having a perfectly hydrated mustache is better!! Yes, because a mustache with hydrated hair will be:

  • a more beautiful mustache: the hair of your mustache will be more shiny.

  • a stronger mustache: the hair of your mustache will be more robust, less brittle.

  • a softer mustache: a hydrated hair is a softer hair.

  • a dandruff-free mustache: by moisturizing the hair of your mustache, you will also moisturize the skin under the mustache. Thus, you will avoid having mustache dandruff.

To moisturize your mustache, you will need to use a beard oil , such as castor oil for example.

Exfoliate to maintain the mustache

Another care that you can do is a scrub to maintain the mustache. As the beard scrub is recommended to thoroughly clean the beard, a mustache scrub will be just as necessary. Exfoliation of the mustache will allow:

  • to remove excess sebum present on the skin under the mustache, which can cause oily dandruff in the mustache

  • remove dead cells from the skin under the mustache, which can lead to dry dandruff

  • to deeply remove the dust, the pollution which could be in the mustache.

A mask to maintain the mustache

The last care that I could advise you to maintain the mustache is to make a mask. This treatment will be particularly suitable for people who have very dry, dehydrated mustache hair, which requires shock treatment. As with the beard mask, the mustache mask will consist of applying a good amount of beard oil (or vegetable oil such as olive oil) to your mustache, and letting it sit between 10 to 20 minutes.

How to style your mustache?

Some men have a perfectly disciplined mustache, others on the contrary, it's a bit nonsense, the hairs go in all directions, which is not very pretty. To style your mustache, you have two options:

  • use a beard balm . In addition to taming your mustache, beard balm will also moisturize your mustache.

  • use a mustache wax, which usually have stronger holdouts than beard balm.
